This is the handiest thing you'll carry in your bag. More and more modems, faxes and credit card terminals are being installed every day! Most often they are sharing lines being used for other purposes as well. It won't be a big deal as long as you stick one of these in front of each device sharing the line, other devices will get dead air until the line becomes free, and then automatically get dial tone! Incoming or Outgoing!
Don't put this in-front of a device that already senses whether the line is in-use or not, like a credit card machine.
These little Exclusion Adapters are cheap and easy to install. I carry a handful in my bag all the time! Two jacks are provided on each adapter, so that if the devices are located next to each other, you only need ONE ADAPTER! Otherwise, leave the second jack empty.

By busying out other lines in hunt groups or connected to an answering machine, callers after the first one will get a Busy Signal instead of open ringing (no answer). This is the CORRECT solution to one answering machine for multiple lines. The only other choices are: Order a Break Hunt Switch from the phone company (a private channel that signals the CO to stop hunting); Use Call Forwarding to a non-hunting line; Busy out the lines manually (but you couldn't use them for outgoing calls) or get a multi-line voice mail system.
